Semi Drum Type LD Film Slitting Machine
Smooth Conversion of Soft & Flexible LD Film Rolls
Semi-Drum Type LD Film Slitting Machine is used to slit LD/LDPE film rolls of a wider width into narrower widths by providing a proper web-handling process. Being soft and stretchable, LD film requires balancing of tension to minimize wrinkles, stretching, and web shifting. The semi-drum winding system ensures reel making in case of increasing roll diameter. Web guiding system provides proper film guidance, while the setting of slitting and winding parameters can be adjusted depending on film gauge and reel size.

Managing Stretchable LD Film During Slitting
LD film has a softer and more elastic behaviour than many rigid roll-fed substrates. If the web is pulled too tightly, it may stretch and affect the final slit dimensions; if tension becomes too low, the film may wander or develop wrinkles.
The machine therefore maintains suitable web conditions while the material travels from the parent roll toward the cutting section. Proper guiding helps keep the LD film centred, while correctly positioned knives divide the web into the required widths.
Operating settings can be adjusted according to film gauge, roll width, stretch characteristics, and required finished size. This controlled approach helps maintain cleaner edges and more consistent reel dimensions for further converting.
Semi-Drum Rewinding for Stable LD Film Reels
In the case of the rewinding process of soft LD film, there is the need for the proper control of tension between the strength of the reel and the flexibility of the film.
If the tension is high, the film will either stretch or compress while too little will lead to wobbly rolls, telescoping or uneven layers. With the help of the semi-drum setup, it is possible to ensure that the film maintains proper contact during the reel construction process.
Winding conditions can be tailored based on the thickness of the film and the required size of the reel. This will make sure that the layers form properly.
Why LD Film Needs Flexible Tension Management
The LD film is not always dimensionally stable with an excess pulling force applied to it due to its flexibility. The tension must also vary correctly with the decrease in size of the parent roll and increase in diameter of the final reels.
Tension control ensures that there is no excessive stretching of the material and enough control of the web movement. This, in combination with proper guidance and winding, preserves the condition of the film throughout the slitting process.
The equipment can thus be set up based on the thickness of the LD film, parent roll sizes, slitting pattern, size of the final reels, and intended application downstream.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. A wider LD film roll can be slit into multiple narrower reels according to the required cutting arrangement.
Suitable web tension, guiding, and controlled rewinding help keep soft LD film stable while it travels through the machine.
Yes. Compatible LD film can be prepared in suitable reel widths for subsequent bag-making and related converting processes.
Yes. The slitting arrangement can be set according to the required finished reel widths within the selected machine configuration.
The semi-drum arrangement provides controlled support to the finished reels during winding, helping maintain a more consistent roll profile.
LD film is flexible and stretchable. Excessive tension may stretch the web, while insufficient tension can lead to wrinkles or unstable material movement.
