Automatic Web Handling from Unwind to Rewind

The continuous slitting process involves much more than precise slitting; the material must remain stable throughout its travels through the various machines. The automatic web handling system controls material movement from the parent roll through the slitting area to the rewinding area.

Controlled web travel aids in reducing unnecessary lateral movements of the material, and in ensuring consistent positioning at the knives. As changes occur in operating conditions due to changes in the roll diameter, the machine continues to control the material flow based on set parameters.

This automation process saves operator time, thus providing consistent converting throughout the long production runs.

Drum-Supported Rewinding for Uniform Reel Formation

Reels that have already been completed require adequate support while being wound to avoid the development of irregular reels. In the case of the drum type of configuration, the slit reels continue to be supported as they expand in diameter, thereby facilitating the settling of the layers of the material being wound.

Controlled winding promotes effective management of issues affecting reels such as telescoping, loose layers, edge variations, hardness, and irregular rolls among others. Winding parameters that are appropriate can be chosen based on the nature of the substrate and its thickness.

Automation is especially beneficial where there are repeated slitting runs or longer parent rolls to be handled. As soon as the right operating parameters have been determined, the machine will be able to keep its slitting and winding operations coordinated without constant manual intervention.
