Wet Lamination Machine

Controlled Liquid-Adhesive Lamination for Paper, Film and Foil

Our Wet Lamination Machine is designed to bond paper to aluminium foil, plastic film or any other compatible materials using a regulated liquid-adhesive process. Provides even application of adhesive, stable web tension and consistent nip pressure to produce flat, tightly bonded laminate rolls.

The machine is particularly suitable for structures containing an absorbent paper substrate, which allows moisture from the adhesive to escape during production. The roll-to-roll design enables the reliable manufacture of foil-paper laminates, decorative paper, packaging material and speciality converted products.

Engineered for Reliable Wet-Bond Lamination

The most common method is wet lamination, where the moisture is absorbed from the adhesive by one of the substrates. The absorbent layer is paper and the protective or decorative surface is aluminium foil, film or other material.

In production the adhesive needs to be placed evenly. Too much coating may prolong drying time, cause curling and increase production costs. Insufficient adhesive may cause dry patches, weak bonding or layer separation during slitting and further conversion.

Our Industrial Wet Laminating Machine uses a controlled coating arrangement to distribute liquid adhesive across the required working width. Stable web handling prevents wrinkles and edge movement, while the lamination nip applies uniform pressure to bring both substrates together.

Designed to Prevent Curling, Bubbles and Weak Bonding

The wet lamination process demands careful coordination of adhesive viscosity, paper absorbency, coating weight, line speed, nip pressure and drying conditions. If these factors are not in balance, the finished laminate may curl, bubble or separate when rewound.

When the paper and the secondary material enter the bonding section the machine keeps steady tension. Uniform pressure helps to avoid unnecessary trapped air and assures good contact between the layers. The laminate enters the drying section where controlled hot air facilitates the removal of residual moisture.

A synchronized rewinding system gives straight and compact finished rolls. Operators can alter process settings according to paper GSM, foil or film thickness, adhesive properties and necessary manufacturing output.

Why Wet Lamination Requires an Absorbent Substrate

In wet lamination, the glue is still wet when the two materials are joined together. Moisture must consequently be able to escape through at least one absorbent substrate, normally paper. This is especially useful for paper-to-film and paper-to-foil construction.

You may trap moisture between the two non-absorbent films and prevent it from drying properly. Such film to film arrangements are often better suited for dry, solvent based or solventless lamination, depending on the application.

Hence, the configuration of Wet Lamination Machine should be determined based on substrate combination, paper GSM, adhesive chemistry and end product requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the machine suitable for food-packaging applications?

It can produce materials intended for food packaging when approved food-contact substrates, adhesives and manufacturing processes are used.

Can automatic tension control be provided?

Yes. Load-cell-based automatic tension control and electronic web guiding can be integrated according to the required configuration.

Is a drying system included?

Yes. A hot-air drying section can be provided to remove residual moisture and stabilize the laminated material.

How does the machine prevent bubbles and wrinkles?

Stable web tension, accurate alignment, controlled adhesive application and uniform nip pressure help prevent bubbles and wrinkles.

Can aluminium foil be laminated with paper?

Yes. Paper-to-aluminium-foil lamination is one of the primary applications of this machine.

Which type of adhesive is used?

Water-based or other compatible liquid adhesives can be used. The adhesive should be selected according to the substrates and final application.

Can two plastic films be laminated using this process?

Wet lamination is generally unsuitable for two non-absorbent films because moisture can become trapped. Film-to-film structures usually require dry, solvent-based or solventless lamination.

Why is paper commonly used in wet lamination?

Paper absorbs moisture from the adhesive, allowing the laminate to dry and develop a stable bond.

Which materials can be processed?

The machine is primarily suitable for paper-to-film, paper-to-aluminium-foil and other compatible structures containing at least one absorbent substrate.

What is a Wet Lamination Machine?

A Wet Lamination Machine applies liquid adhesive to one substrate and immediately bonds it with another material before the adhesive has fully dried.
